Your Rhodes Island Retreat
Lindos: The Ultimate Double Feature
If you only have time for one spot that perfectly blends history and beach vibes, Lindos is it.
The Culture: Hike up to the Acropolis of Lindos. Perched 116 meters above the sea on a sheer cliff, it features the ancient Temple of Athena Lindia. The panoramic views of the Aegean from between the ancient columns are unreal.
The Fun: After sweating it out on the ancient ruins, hike straight down into St. Paul’s Bay. It’s a heart-shaped, enclosed cove with absolute glass-like turquoise water. Finish the day wandering the whitewashed labyrinth of Lindos village and grabbing mezze and cocktails on a lively rooftop taverna as the sun goes down.
Rhodes Town: Knights & Nightlife
The capital of the island is a collision of a heavily fortified 14th-century world and a cosmopolitan modern summer playground.
The Culture: Walk through the gates of the Medieval City of Rhodes (a UNESCO World Heritage site). Wander down the cobblestone Street of the Knights and explore the massive Palace of the Grand Master. It genuinely feels like a movie set, but it’s 100% real.
The Fun: Step right outside the castle walls and head to Elli Beach. This is the trendy, vibrant heart of the city’s summer scene. Rent a plush sunbed at a chic beach club like Ronda, swim out to the iconic 1930s concrete diving board in the middle of the sea, and let the afternoon seamlessly transition into resident DJs and sunset house music.
Kallithea Springs: Art Deco & Snorkeling
The Culture: Built by the Italians in the 1920s, the Kallithea Springs are a stunning architectural complex of pebble mosaics, archways, and palm-tree-lined courtyards built around ancient thermal baths.
The Fun: The true draw here in the summer is the water. The architecture perfectly frames a rocky, crystal-clear inlet that is easily one of the best snorkeling spots on the island. It’s sophisticated, relaxed, and incredibly photogenic.
The East Coast: Cinematic Bays & Catamarans
The Culture: Head to Anthony Quinn Bay, a rugged, pine-lined cove made famous by the legendary actor who fell in love with it while filming The Guns of Navarone. It’s a piece of classic Hollywood-meets-Greek-history.
The Fun: The absolute best way to experience this stretch of coast is by booking a catamaran cruise. Drop anchor in these deep emerald bays, dive off the deck, and eat freshly grilled seafood right on the boat while soaking in the Mediterranean sun.
Prasonisi: Where Two Seas Meet
The Culture/Nature: At the absolute southernmost tip of the island lies Prasonisi, a massive sandspit that shifts with the tides, marking the exact spot where the Aegean Sea collides with the Mediterranean.
The Fun: It is a world-class adrenaline hub. Because of the famous summer Meltemi winds, one side of the beach offers massive waves perfect for windsurfing and kitesurfing, while the other side remains flat and calm for paddleboarding or just laying out on the golden sand.
